הרכב הניו טרייב נפגש בניו יורק בהופעות מול קהל יהודי לפני כ3 שנים ושואב את השראתו ‘מהשבטים החדשים’ שלא נכנסו אל הרשימה המבוקשת של שבטי ישראל, מדובר כאן בניסיון לחיבור מוסיקלי יחודי המשלב ג’ז עם כוונים חוץ יהודיים שכן ההשפעות הן מגוונות ונעות מהגרוב הצפון מרכז אפריקאי (המיוצג כאן דרך הקטע ‘ג’יזלה’) דרך השפעות ברזיליות עם נגיעות למוסיקה תיימנית (המיוצג כאן בקטע ‘נג’מג’מה) ודרך כיווני הקלזמר המזרח איירופאי (המיוצג כאן בקטע ‘ריקוד הטל’ ).

מנהיג הלהקה, אלון נחושתן מספר: “חשבתי שהצרוף של שני נגני טנור סקסופון הינו צרוף לא רגיל להרכב קטן ולא תזמורת ביג בנג וחשבתי על כתיבת מוסיקה שתחפש אפשרוייות ביטוי לשני הנגנים באופן שיחמיא להם ולא ייצור תחרותיות אלא תזמורים משלימים. לאחר מספר הופעות מצאנו את האיזון בין העומק של הסקסופון ככלי סולני אינדיבידואלי לבין היכולת של הקבוצה לספר בכל קטע סיפור חדש שלא סופר קודם לכן והכימיה ההולכת וגדלה בין הנגנים יצרה שיתוף פעולה סוחף שהביא את המוסיקה לכוונים חדשים ומסעירים.

ENGLISH :

Nu Tribe quintet – met during a during a show in front of a jewish audience in New York City 3 years ago. The influeces for their music are vast and re-imagine the ‘lost tribes’ of the 21st century: bringing jazz influences to surprising new places such as the North-Central African tune Gissela (in the attached sample), the Brazilian meets Yemenic groove of Nejamjema (In the attached sample) and through the Klezmer and East European dance music of the tune Dew-Dance (in the attached Sample).

Members of the band have been active members of the New York Jazz Scene for over the last 5 years and have performed in festivals in the Chech Republic, Brazil, Canada, Japan and Ukaraine.

Group leader Alon Nechushtan recalls: “ I thought initially that grouping two tenor saxophones in a small combo (and not big band) is a fresh combination that might have an interesting potential and well worth exploring… a lot of what came after was untirely up to the surprising chemsistry that developed between the players, bringing the music to exciting new places. The ability of the Saxophonists as a strong solistic instrument to tell the story, as each composition had a diverse sonic pallete, was matched by a strong sectional supporting role, thus creating a group dynamic while still keeping a strong individual, self expressive pulse – was what made this group leap forward.
